Imagine yourself in the future. The year is 2113. The world hasn't
changed much, either, except the fact the population has dropped nearly eighty
percent. A world infested with super bugs and diseases has the mortality rate
of humans just a little over thirty years. The oldest living person is a
whopping forty two years old. All of your worst fears reign free. Even a
simple cold can be enough to kill a person. Imagine the paranoia you feel when
you walk outside your door. The human race is becoming extinct and there is
no way to stop it.
Now imagine hope. Secret government testing has been occurring in recent
years as they test a new gene codenamed GX. The gene is designed to boost
the immune system, attempting to find a cure to all natural diseases. At first,
it's tested on rats and pigs with positive results. The first human trial is on a
coma patient. The patient's immune system fights off the flu with ease. Next is
chickenpox. Meningitis. Malaria. Everything is completely fought off. Is it a
miracle? Are we saved?
Still a secret, the government rounds one hundred test subjects, the largest
scale trial ever. It goes off without a hitch. Soon the government will announce
their findings. The world will be safe again. That is, until it all goes down
terribly one night. The coma patient awakes without memory. He freaks out.
People attempt to restrain him but he throws them across the room. What
exactly is going on?
The GX gene comes with other side effects besides a boosted immune system.
Super strength, super senses, increased agility, regenerative healing. We have
bred our own super heroes. Or are they villains? Confused, the coma patient
escapes the realms of the government testing facility. Seeing him as a threat,
they attempt to restrain the others to no avail. Fearing for their lives, the GX
patients escape.
With super humans on the loose the government leaks stories of a new
disease. It gives people increased abilities for a short period of time before
turning deadly. Of course it isn't true. Or is it? It seems that a few GX patients
have lost their abilities and died. Their bodies weren't strong enough to contain
the gene. But it isn't true for all.
Under the impression that this new "disease" is
contagious, a group arises called the Hostiles. Their sole mission is to rid of the
GX gene. After capturing one patient they find the weakness: mercury.
Think of mercury like Superman's weakness to
Kryptonite it effects GX patients exactly the same.
But not everyone is against the GX patients.
The Peacekeepers believe in the
good that the GX gene can bring. They help the patients, sheltering them from
the dangers of the Infidels. Of the government. They see them as our only
chance for survival. They just may be.
So which side are you on? Do you suffer the consequences of mutated genes?
Do you try to kill what you do not understand? Do you cover up your
mistakes? Do you search for hope in something you question? How does one
hunt
lethal prey?
