Derrick Thadeus Flynn
Captain
~Vitals~
~Name:Derrick Flynn
~Title: Seraph, though he prefers Captain.
~Nicknames:Der, Flyboy, Cap, Flynn, Smuggler...
~Age: 25
~Gender: Male
~Race: Dobian: Dobian's are a subspecies of human, known for their impressive reflexes, few are more quick and agile than a Dobian.
~Planet of Origin:Doba, a desert world chock full of precious minerals, it is a recent addition to the Force's collection. Five years to be exact.
~Sexuality: Heterosexual
~Faction: Aengels (Would like to RP him joining though!)
~Reputation: He's a smuggler, and perhaps one of the best pilots most have seen. Though he's also a little unstable, and drunk far too often.
~Specialty: Pilot and mechanic
~Former Life:Former Dobian military, pilot
~In Combat~
~POWERS: Adaptive eyesight: Some say that the hand is quicker than the eye, that isn't the case for Derrick. His reflexes are surprisingly fast, as they are with all Dobians, but his eyes are able to keep up. He's also incapable of being blinded by flashes of light, or sudden darkness. His vision will adapt to compensate, however, he has adaptive eyesight, not adaptive eyes. Things such as pepper spray, or sharp objects, can still blind him.
~Weapons and Equipment: Derrick favors twin pistols, that he wears around his hips, and a collapsable baton, concealed in a forearm holster, and a small knife hidden in his right boot.
He flies the Syphon Fae, a small, compact cargo freighter, capable of impressive speeds, though she isn't the fastest there is, she is perhaps the most agile you'll find. Filled with several hidden compartments to hide a variety of goods, and housing twin lasers on the nose, she's capable of combat against small fighters, but a destroyer would be way out of her league.
~Skills: Derrick is a talented pilot, perhaps one of the best, able to conduct impossible manuevers with any ship. If it flies, he can pilot it. Never tell him something is impossible, he'll see it as a challenge.
He's also a talented mechanic, able to fix anything with an engine, though there'll be times the Syphon Fae fails him, he has a love for more archaic technologies integrated into machines, such as the Fae's navigational computer, with its old monitor and swivelling keyboard.
~Former training: Military pilot training, Avazed Academy on the planet Doba, he also has some basic combat training, he's a dangerous unarmed combatant, and a decent shot with his pistols, at least average, but he really took to the use of the baton.
~A Face to Fear~
~Height:5'7"
~Weight:120 lbs
~Hair Color:Brown
~Hair Style:Shaggy, with a bit of scruff on his face as well.
~Eye Color:Grey
~Play-By:Billy Campbell
~Clothing Style: (Flynn is a fan of mobility and diversity, as such he often wears an array of pouches, belts and a leather vest, with excessive amounts of hidden pockets on the inside. His pants, often a dark colored pair, are loose enough to allow for ease of movement, with a flexible mesh woven in to protect his legs from the rigours of whatever he may need. He is also never without a long sleeved shirt, light and flowing, to wear in cold or warm environments, while able to conceal anything up his sleeves, from cards to weapons. His boots are lightweight, with the same mesh as his pants to avoid crushing, with a sheathe for a knife on the inside of each ankle, though he only keeps one in the right sheath.
~Distinguishing Features: He has no tattoos, but there is a scar that runs down from his scalp to his tail bone, obtained after a bad crash on Doba when the planet was taken.
~OVERALL APPEARANCE: Flynn's hair, while shaggy, is often swept back, giving him a dashing look to go with the thin stubble of his beard. A cocky smirk is usually evident upon his strikingly handsome face. His musculature shows someone who utilizes his body often, in a variety of rigours, while not built for strength, he's built for endurance and speed.
~Beneath the Exterior~
~Likes: Freedom, Space, Anything with an engine, the Syphon Fae, Booze, and women.
~Dislikes: The Force, any extreme (all chaos or all order, there's a middle ground that must be found), spiders, dust, lightning storms, not being the best at his job.
~Fears: Being imprisoned, Spiders, being beaten in the cockpit, Failure.
~Weaknesses: Booze and women, two of his major vices. The Syphon Fae, she's his baby. Pride, he has a strong dosage of it, if he's challenged, he'll rise to meet it, he doesn't believe he can be beaten.
~Strengths: Tactics, Mechanics, Flying, Charisma
~Goals: To reclaim Doba, and destroy the Force.
~Hobbies: Working on the Syphon Fae, she's his baby, every inch of that ship has been replaced and retrofitted by Flynn himself, and gambling, he cheats...
~OVERALL PERSONALITY: Cocky and arrogant, Derrick Flynn is the quintessential flyboy. He's good, and he knows it, he dares anyone to try and beat him in flight. He isn't the best at following orders, or obeying any kind of regime, but he will do whatever it takes to succeed at the mission, one only needs know how to appeal to his pride.
However, for all his posturing, a few things remain true. Flynn has a heart that beats and bleeds, strongly for anything against the Force. His temper seems infinate, but mention Doba and it may set him off. He hates the Force, and will do everything in his power to circumvent their oppression, if he can save one person from their grasp, he'll risk everything if he deems it necessary.
~Rap and History~
~Mother:Sara Debiniv, scientist, civilian, killed in the sacking of Doba.
~Father: Oscar Flynn, fighter pilot, Captain of Sword Squadron. Sword was completely wiped out in the battle over Doba.
~Siblings:Only child
~Other relations:Rachel Debiniv, aunt, Black Squad leader, ground forces, vanished with all of Black shortly after the bombarding started.
~Companions:IVI - Interactive Virtual Interface, the Syphon Fae's rudimentary Virtual Intelligence (VI)
~OVERALL HISTORY: Flynn led a relativedly good life on Doba. His mother a scientist, his father a reknown pilot in the military. He learned from both, as kids are want to do. He had little fascination in science, but more so in his father's line of work. His father approved of his love of mechanics, and helped instill him knowledge in how things worked.
He enlisted when he was fresh faced, and eighteen, gaining further training. As luck would have it, his father had been a better teacher than the trainers, and he breezed through the Academy with honors. He turned out to be one of their best pilots, and at the age of twenty, he was the alpha team leader on Sabre Squad. Unfortunately for him, that was when the Force hit. They wanted Doba for their minerals, the planet was rich in precious metals, metals they often used to build their ships. The Dobians rallied in an attempt to drive back their new enemy, but in the end... the Force was too much, and Doba fell. Sabre Squad had chased a group of fighters out of their atmosphere... and into an ambush, their squad leader was incinerated before they could even react to the massive ship blocking them. Flynn doing his best to lead his men to safety, but when the battle was over, there was a debris field of decimated ships orbiting Doba. And most of them, were of Dobian design.
Flynn had been hit, his systems failing, he turned off everything. He knew he needed to survive, and to get away from Doba if there was going to be any hope of reclaiming his homeworld. So adrift in space, he could only watch as the great cities burned on the planet's surface. To occupy himself and his mind, he began repairs on his fighter as he used up what oxygen he had left, without the ship's life support online, he finished his work with a rebreather on, depleting those reserves. It took him three days, but the ship was operational again, powering up, he drew the attention of the Force, but before they could attack, he was gone.
He tried to find help at first, going to neighboring planets, but each time he was met with fear... or hatred... often chased offworld by Force presence. He soon realized that there was no free world any longer. The only amount of freedom he'd found was in the underworld, the shady back room dealings and underground manipulations. That gave him an idea... he'd need a bigger ship. So what began as a career as an enforcer for smaller criminals, he worked his way up, using what small fortunes he gained to purchase odds and ends, small pieces. In his off time working to put them together, taking apart his old fighter, and piecing it back togeter; piece by painful piece. When all was said and done, the Syphon Fae was built. A small freighter, capable of concealing anything anyone could ever want shipped. Drugs, weapons... he still worked for his former employers, but now he could do so offworld with much more ease. Then came the mention of the Aengels. A terrorist organization, sure, but... the Force was the ruling body, anyone against them would be labelled as such.
He wants to know their game, where they stand... and if they need his help, he'll name a price maybe.
~Writing Sample~
The blockade was alot thicker than he had been told. Letting out a silent curse as he dropped out of lightspeed... a loud crunching sound resounded through his ship, lights flickering on and off momentarily, drawing a deep frown upon his features. The large capital ships turning toward him as his comm crackled, demanding identification. His hands moved over the keyboard, but the lights on his monitor faded and died causing him to throw up his hands.
"Oh, c'mon!" he cried, slipping under the console, tearing off the panel, and activating the comm. Clearing his throat, he changed his voice, deepening it, and removing his accent. "Uh, yes, this is the Star Skipper, registry NCF-2154-3299," he said, "I have Force supplies for delivery..." he said, wincing as energy crackled from one wire, snapping over his fingertips causing him to jerk his hand back and stuff his fingers into his mouth. His ship was being treasonous!
"Roger that, Star Skipper, though you're not scheduled for delivery here..." the voice said, "Please stand by to be boarded,"
"Uh, that's not necessary... I'm sure it's just an oversight on your part..." he said, moving to twist two wires together. There was a humm as all systems came back online. He moved to climb back into the pilot's chair, pausing as he saw how close they were. "Wow, look at the size 'o those cannons..."
"Star Skipper, we're reading all systems coming back on line, please power down and prepare to be boarded..." the voice on the other side of the com seemed eager to get onboard. Derrick Flynn didn't like unauthorized visitors...
"Roger that... I appear to be havin' a mechanical failure here, lads... one sec-" he felt the sudden jolt of inertia as his ship shot forward, twisting as it did. He could feel the heavy 'thoom' of the cannons, silent in space, but the shots revertebrated through the vessel, narrowly missing its hull.
"Oy! Stop shootin' at the Fae, she ain't done nothin' to you... yet..." Flynn said, bringing the freighter into a sudden turn barely getting out of the way of a nose shot. His thumb pressing the button on his control stick; moving under the belly of the larger vessel, raking it with plasma fire for a moment. All that seemed to do was leave black scorch marks on the underside, not doing any real damage. Flynn swore as he took aim at the planet below... suddenly going into an inverted dive as the larger ship attempted to turn and fire on him.
"Lady luck, don't fail me now..." he muttered as he plummeted, red fire lancing behind him...
